Since 1995 upon forming the Treestand Manufacturer’s Association (TMA), industry standards for treestands and treestand harnesses were developed and approved by members of the association. The association’s bylaws require that members in the Manufacturing Class submit products to a third party testing firm and certified by that testing firm to meet or exceed industry standards recognized by TMA.
Since 2001, TMA associates and representatives have become members of ASTM International, formally the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM). Beginning January 1, 2016 TMA Members’ products are required to meet the current ASTM standards for treestands under Subcommittee F08.18. ASTM’s leadership in international standards development is driven by the contributions of its members: more than 30,000 of the world’s top technical experts and business professionals representing 150 countries. Working in an open and transparent process and using ASTM’s advanced electronic infrastructure, ASTM members deliver the test methods, specifications, guides and practices that support industries and governments worldwide.
